Departing from my norm of just posting a ton of awesome MR2's, I’m gonna bitch about mine. I mean, I’ll post pictures of MR2's, but words will be said.

Kinja'd!!!

So I’ve owned the car for.... just about 4 years now. 4 years, 42,000 miles, 2 countries, 2 engines (By choice, not necessity), 2 track days, countless road trips, 6 soon to be 7 moves, 2 trips to tail of the dragon (A lot of 2's here, just noticing that), and one tow truck. Longest I’ve ever owned a car, most miles I’ve ever put on a car, most modifications I’ve ever done to a car, fastest car I’ve owned, most reliable, I mean the list goes on. There is literally one car in the world I would give this up for, and it’s another MR2 that would just get all the parts I have on this one swapped over anyways.

Kinja'd!!!

That being said, it’s 23 years old, highly modified, completely impractical, and I’ve spent more on parts alone to fix it since I’ve gotten it back from Spain than I’ve spent on gas to drive it. It’s gotten MAYBE 500 miles in the last few months. It’s gotten new tie rods (inner and outer), ball joints, steering bellows, brake adjustment, alignment, and a thorough once over the weekend it got off the boat. I have a full standalone EMS ready to install once it’s ready to go but it needs new struts up front. I’ve driven it twice in 3 months. The wife uses it to go to the grocery store every few days and that’s about it. It’s being dropped off on Thursday to a fabricator friend of mine who is making some nice seat brackets and a front plate mount/towhook for it, then it gets new struts up front, then maybe, MAYBE, I can drive it. If, you know, nothing else breaks.

Kinja'd!!!

To be fair, all the steering and suspension stuff got messed up when I went off track at VIR in the pigpens. It’s done almost 7k miles since then before everything decided to quit in unison. It’s the worst timing ever though, I’m weeks from closing on a house, all my tools are in storage, and my wife and kid are staying with family while I rent a room and work out of state. I couldn’t have gotten this far without Scimitar as he has given up his weekends to work on it while I’m away for me (I pay him for it, but it’s still less than he deserves). I just want to drive it, my Saab is nice and all, but it’s not the MR2 by a long shot.

Kinja'd!!!

When I finally get to move in, I’m detailing the ever living CRAP out of it too, it hasn’t had a bath in 3 months... Hopefully I can buy a truck so the wife doesn’t have to stuff the car seat in it to tote the kiddo around as well. Not the best family car. All the parts were installed by Scimitar this weekend, I even got to drive it 3 miles for a drink and to take the wife to get her hair cut, the shudder and clunk in the front end was supposed to have been fixed by that. Well today (yesterday, but I haven’t gone to bed yet so...) I find out that the car is still almost dangerous to drive, rebound on the drivers side is terrible, explained how to adjust the inserts to soften the rebound, still bad. It was scheduled for an alignment anyways so the wife had them check it out and they say the struts are bad. Great.... $300 for new front struts, plus install since I can’t do it with my schedule, then ANOTHER alignment. Hopefully they wont screw up and set the camber to 0 degrees this time, since I have to call when they open and have them fix that. (Needs to be around 1.2-1.3 for handling, you know, when I drive it).

I broke mine :( I’m glad yours has been going well for the most part. Unfortunately it can’t change its spots - it will never be more practical than it is :P

I love those teal ones too.

Were those pics taken in VA Beach? I know the guy that has the Cressida and one of the MR2's.

Yup, we run in similar circles. Fairly sure we’ve met once or twice in Fredericksburg.

I just need to get the wife a daily... soon.

A 93 turbo hardtop in turquoise pearl is my dream mr2. Only 2 made.

93 was a pretty rare year for hardtops, something like 3000 or so off the top of my head, of those most are black, white, red, etc... for Turquoise Pearl, a color only offered in 93, there are two known to exist. I know where both of them are and have a standing offer for one of them. If there are more than two stock turbo hardtops in that color it’s news to quite a few people. I will concede to only 2 made for the U.S. There may be some overseas.

I thought that might be US only. Worldwide production numbers seem hard to come by. I’ve found numbers to suggest there were 0.02% of 300ZXs built in LP2 midnight purple for the US...but there were almost certainly more in Japan.

Further to that, most sources think the 1990 MR2 (like mine!) doesn’t exist.

I mean technically it’s identical to a 91 right? It just got bought the day it came out or something?

Also I’m unsure if turquoise pearl was a color option in other countries. Might have been a us only option. They got a sea green one in Spain, and I’ve seen some nautical blues in Scotland.

I’m not sure. I can’t even tell because all the guides I can find are by Americans for Americans. But they weren’t just early 91 cars, 1990 was a legitimate year of production for MR2s in Japan. America just missed out for a year. I think Australia got them early too.

I’ve seen a few turquoise-ish ones in Australia, I think we got some. We get imports over here so half the MR2s we have are Japanese. We have a good spattering of different colors.
